⚡[Eye-Opener] Quitting My Job Was Easier Than Quitting My Corporate Mindset

Hey Reader,

You filed the paperwork, you bought the domain, and you've got that shiny EIN sitting in your inbox. You're officially a "Business Owner" on paper.

But why do you still feel like an employee on a very long, very stressful lunch break?

I remember that feeling. I'm not one of those people who came out of the womb with an LLC attached. I spent 20+ years bending my life to a corporate clock. When I finally went solo, I felt like an off-balance donkey on roller skates—every time I thought I found my rhythm, I fell.

An LLC is just a filing. It doesn't automatically grant you a CEO mindset.

Your employer isn't just where you get a check; it is the Framework for your entire existence. Think about it:

  • Your Rhythm: You wake up, commute, take time off, and eat based on your work hours.
  • Your Lifestyle: Your car, your house's location, and even how you manage money align with the dates of your employer's paychecks, bonuses, and stock option disbursement dates.
  • Your Tribe: Your friends are coworkers or "adjacent" friends who speak the same language of promotions and PTO.

It can also feel lonely. My old friends were still complaining about meetings I no longer had to attend, and suddenly, we didn't have the same "shared air" anymore.

🤷🏿‍♀️ Why This Matters To Your Dreams Of Being Your Own Boss

You're starting this journey at 40+ with a mortgage and 20 years of corporate "indoctrination"; your transition is going to look different than that of a 22-year-old with nothing to lose. So give yourself a little grace if it feels harder to you than it seems to others- you're right.

You aren't just quitting a job; you're uprooting the very foundation of your Financial Security that has fed you for two decades.

Give yourself some grace. This is a tougher mental haul for you because:

  • You're Unlearning, Not Just Learning: You are deconstructing 20 years of "employee" conditioning. That doesn't disappear overnight.
  • The Stakes are Real: You have actual assets and a lifestyle to protect. Your fears aren't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of wisdom.
  • Proximity Power: If you haven't lived around entrepreneurs, you're learning a new language without a translator.

Acknowledge the weight of what you're doing. Give yourself grace if you can't rise to the endless grind influencer energy of entrepreneurs (I'm in my 50s- between menopausal hot flashes and "I just don't feel like it occasional moments- I've learned how to do this at my own pace- unapologetically).

💡 Next Step To Getting Closer To Your Dreams

To stop the comparison trap and honor your specific journey, do these three things this week:

  1. Find Your People: Seek out a community of business owners who also spent 15+ years in corporate so you can stop feeling like an outlier.
  2. Ask About the "Messy Middle": Have a conversation with someone a little further ahead of you and ask about their transition stage, not their current wins.
  3. Normalize the Transition: Acknowledge that you are unlearning decades of "employee" conditioning and give yourself the space to evolve.

🆘 Ready to quit but feeling stuck

If you want to leap but you're afraid of struggling vs soaring, I can help with that. Our Strategy session is designed to move you from the overwhelm of "Can I really afford this?" to confidently feeling "I got this!"

Our session doesn't begin with spreadsheets; in fact, there aren't any. In our sessions, we focus on:

  • The Map (Direction on Life & Vocation): Define the life you actually want & figure out the best vehicle to support it (employment or self-employment). Result: No more spinning on indecisive "what ifs.”)
  • The Math (Financial Snapshot): A High-Level Financial Snapshot with enough "math" to spot & address the cracks in your finances that can derail your goals. Result: You see the hurdles before you hit them.
  • The Method (Action Plan): An outline of the "Map" & "Math" in an Action Plan with steps to address obstacles to your goals. Result: You sleep better knowing exactly your next steps—no more overwhelm, analysis paralysis, and constant second-guessing.

End overwhelm, with clear action steps that start with what's important to you.

The Confident Quitter's Manifesto

We can be our own worst enemy when we let fear and the noise of others win. This Manifesto is the truth you speak back to yourself and to the people who tell you to play small. Read this, own this, and let this be the truth that guides your steps:

The Confident Quitter isn't just a quitter—she's a builder of her own destiny.

She knows that to step fully into her God-given purpose and build the life she truly desires, she must boldly release what no longer serves her. That means letting go of the soul-sucking job, the limiting beliefs whispering "it's too late," and the lie that she has to stay small.

This isn't defeat; this is a defiant declaration of faith.

With every step, she courageously claims who God is calling her to be—a woman who owns her life, her legacy, and her livelihood.

She is ready. She is capable. She is confident. She is YOU.

Take care,
